Beyond his guest spots with Queens of the Stone Age and fronting the Screaming Trees, Mark Lanegan hasn’t had a whole hell of a lot of success with his solo projects, critically lauded though they may be. Bubblegum was solid despite the kind of awful drum loops, Ballad of Broken Seas was stunning, but seemed to only get a perfunctory nod from press. And now, two months after its release, Blues Funeral‘s ink has run dry as well.
Except 4AD just posted a four song live performance by Mark Lanegan and his band which, minus “Harborview Hospital” which sounds like a strange Screaming Trees reunion tour b-side, and it deserves a mention. If not for the music, then for the incredible fact that he managed to find a Johnny Cash lookalike to handle guitar duties.
