It’s been five years since Retox was released. In that time Hank Von Helvete left to pursue other interests, Chris Summers was asked to leave the band, and things looked pretty bleak for the Turbojugend in general. Indefinite hiatus, no replacement for Hank, a lackluster “final” album.
And then, the band finds a new singer, suddenly starts playing shows and demoing lots of new material. “You Give Me Worms” is the first song from this new era in the band to be debuted properly. The riffs are undeniably Turbonegro’s, which is a relief given how long they’ve been on hiatus, but that only amplifies the strangeness of hearing Tony “The Duke of Nothing” Sylvester’s raspy, sandpaper vocals being barked over them.
