Running across New Terrors was one of those moments that, for me, validated having FPM back. It was a tiny release on a tiny label that had no hope of ever getting the kind of coverage and press it deserved. Granted, FPM’s pull isn’t going to create an Arcade Fire-like effect, but we’re presenting this Who the Fuck Is? in hopes that you’ll check out the album and support a great, under-appreciated artist. You can also read Fine Print Magazine’s review of their debut album Mother.
1. Who the hell are you? How long have you been around?
I’m Burke Sullivan. I’ve been around since 1985, but I started a project called New Terrors in 2010.
2. How’d you end up writing and recording under the New Terrors name?
My last band broke up, and I wanted to do something different than anything I had done before, and do it by myself. The name ‘New Terrors’ rose from deep within my subconscious and I had no choice but to heed the inner call.
3. No bullshitting, what’s your best song? What’s your worst? What’s the reason for each?
“Snakeskin” is the one you’ll love the most. Unless you’re someone else, in which case it would be “Feather Fingers.” But if you’re not that person, you’ll find “Teething Troubles” to be the most satisfying. However, others may prefer “Seagulls”, “Twins”, “Mouths” or “Night of the Creeps.” Luckily, all of these songs can be found on my new EP Mother which can be streamed or purchased here!
4. What have you put out? Who released it? How’d it get recorded?
I just released my self-recorded debut EP on Flannelgraph Records to reasonable acclaim.
5. Why should people buy your album, or stream it at the very least?
You should listen because it might touch your heart. But it also might burrow into your heart and eat it from the inside out.
6. What are your future plans for the band?
I’m working on songs for a full-length right now. It will be different, but better and more different.
7. Do you play live? Do you plan to? Got anything lined up in the near future?
I have been translating the songs with a band made up of live and electronic elements. We just finished an unconnected string of shows, and are looking for more. Book us! newterrors {at} gmail.com
